A Pay Run That Stays Quiet
Salaried teams look like the simplest payroll there is. What grows with the team is not the headcount so much as the number of individual arrangements sitting behind it.

“They came to us highly recommended, we've found the relationship and the service excellent to date so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others.

Simple Until It Isn't
An off-the-shelf payroll system handles a small salaried team perfectly well. The strain shows up later, and it usually arrives one agreement at a time.
Individual arrangements accumulate. A four-day week at the same salary. A commission structure for one role. A phased return from parental leave. Each is reasonable on its own, and each one asks the payroll system a question it was not necessarily designed to answer.
Parental leave has a long tail. It changes how the following year's annual holidays are paid, and the effect outlasts the leave by some margin. It is one of the more common places we find historic errors, usually because the record was never created rather than because it was created wrongly.
Bonuses and commission reach the leave rate. They form part of gross earnings, so they flow through. From 2028 a single hourly leave pay rate replaces the current comparison, which behaves differently again for anyone earning across several rates.
None of this makes an arrangement a problem. It only becomes one when agreeing to it means changing payroll systems. The right platform absorbs the exception — you shouldn't have to reshape your business around what the software can handle.
